Physical Education

The following is the text of Coach Wagner’s “welcome back to school” letter : Coach Wagner Welcome Letter 2017/18

The students at Stoddert have physical education class at least once per week taught by Coach Wagner. Please visit the teacher pages to find out the day of the week that your child has P.E.

Physical Education Rules:

Coach Wagner has three simple rules for physical education at Stoddert:

  • Come dressed for P.E. wearing athletic shoes and proper clothing.
  • Treat other students and the teacher the way you want to be treated.
  • Be the best you can be.

About P.E. This Year At Stoddert:

I welcome you and your child to Stoddert Health and Physical Education.  I am excited to be back working with our great community. Physical Education at Stoddert is based on the SPARK curriculum model. SPARK emphasizes teamwork, skill acquisition, and effort over competition. Students will engage in many activities throughout the year that will allow them to develop important lifelong skills. A highlight of the older students’ curriculum (grades 4-5) will be our NASP archery program. Archery was introduced at Stoddert last year and created a large amount of excitement.Another highlight that the entire school will participate in will be our First Tee Golf unit. DCPS will provide opportunities to compete in citywide championships in both archery and golf.

Stoddert Elementary with the help of our PTO applied for and received the $10,000 PAY grant, which will be used to purchase new equipment and provide unique opportunities such as funding our 5th grade Dancing in the Classrooms unit.  There has also been money set aside to fund field trip transportation to visit our local parks. These funds are specifically designated to help improve and increase our student’s access to high quality physical activity.

I look forward to working with both students and their parents to have a great year of physical education at Stoddert Elementary. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Mitch Wagner
