Dear Stoddert Families,
I’m beginning this update by expressing my sincere gratitude for the support and condolences I’ve received for the death of my mother. Thank you, Stoddert family!
Today is the last day to purchase yearbooks online. With distance learning in effect the yearbook team is strongly encouraging online yearbook purchases. Instructions for purchasing a yearbook online can be found at https://www.stoddert.org/2020/05/01/yearbook-online-purchase-instructions/.
Term 4 Elementary Grading
For term 4, elementary school students in Kindergarten to 5th Grade will receive a “P” (pass) in content areas where they were able to consistently engage (a minimum 2 times per week) in learning at home assignments and activities. Students will be assigned a “NM” (no mark) in content areas where they were unable to engage in learning at home assignments and activities. Students in elementary school will not receive final grades.
Student Promotion and Retention
No student will be penalized from progressing to the next grade due to the absence of in-person intervention supports available during this period of extended school closures. By May 15, schools will reach out to the families of students who are not meeting promotion criteria to discuss what is in the best interest of the student for next year.
Enrollment for SY20/21 Now Open and Online!
Many of you may have received a text from DCPS earlier this week regarding the enrollment process for the 2020-2021 school year. Enrollment is now open and can be done electronically. To complete enrollment forms online, visit the DCPS enrollment website https://enrolldcps.dc.gov/.
It is critically important that families complete their enrollment. We are asking that Stoddert families submit their enrollment forms online as soon as they are able, and NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, MAY 13.
Why is it so important to enroll your children now? Knowing the number of children returning to Stoddert allows Stoddert to best allocate resources and staffing for our growing student population, while managing class size. And the sooner we meet our projected enrollment numbers, the better! (Please note: this is different from the Intent to Re-Enroll form many of you completed in early 2020.)
To enroll, all you need is an email address and information for each of your students. Current Stoddert families will need to upload of proof of residency form and those new to Stoddert also need to upload a proof of birth document for each student. At this point in the process, there is no need to submit DC Health Certificates. Schools will be notified when an electronically submitted enrollment packet is ready for review and signature. If additional follow-up with families is needed, schools will reach out to the enrolling family to request the needed information. Once the forms have been successfully completed and required documentation submitted, the school will electronically sign the enrollment packet. Once the packet is signed, it is considered final and the family is fully enrolled.
The goal is for most families to complete the enrollment process via the electronic submission process, however, there will also be a Fillable PDF version of the enrollment packet for families who cannot complete the new electronic submission process.
For more detailed information on changes in enrollment, please see the district’s Frequently Asked Questions. The DCPS Enrollment Team is available to answer questions at email@example.com or (202) 478-5738.
SY20/21 supply boxes will be available for purchase beginning on Friday, May 1. Ordering will occur through Sprout, just as it has for the last several years. Stoddert’s store is located at www.sproutsupplies.com/supplykits and the code is SES002.

iReady Math Wall of Fame is continuing during distance learning
This event is for all students in 2nd-5th grades, and gives students the chance to earn raffle tickets for an end-of-year iPad drawing. To earn raffle tickets, students must spend at least 101 minutes per week engaged in online iReady instruction. Please congratulate these students who earned raffle tickets last week:
- 2nd Grade: Rania, Alexander
- 3rd Grade: Jonah, Alexandria, Farrin, Sierra, Ainisha, Yucheng, Khanlar
- 5th Grade: Asha, Joseph, Viktor
Teacher Appreciation Week: May 4-8
Please take time next week to tell our teachers how much you appreciate them! They’ve been working incredibly hard to deliver relevant, engaging instruction to our students during this distance learning window. I’ve been in this business for 47 years, and I can truly say that our Stoddert teachers are the best I’ve ever had the privilege of working with.
I encourage you to share what you love about Stoddert teachers on social media. Use the “I Love My DCPS Teacher” sign (posted below) along with #ThankaDCPSTeacher when sharing your shout outs.
