Dear Stoddert Families,
Welcome to another week of distance learning. I hope all of you are well and are following the recommended health guidelines. I’m doing my best to self-isolate, and will be working from home for most of this week.
One of my former colleagues in Florida recently posted a great message to parents, and she’s given me permission to post the same message to our Stoddert families. The message is:
To all parents who are supervising their own kids’ formal virtual schooling…keep in mind that at school, your kid does NOT sit at a desk for 6 hours straight. They have transition times between classes and subjects. They get up for learning materials, books, papers, supplies. They go to the restroom. They move from individual groups to small groups to large groups. So…at home, let them move around or stand up to learn. Let them work for small chunks of time. Break up the action and be patient. They’ll keep learning!! And we will, too.
A reminder for parents of 2nd-5th grade students: our iReady Time-on-Task challenge is continuing. Each student who spends at least 101 minutes per week time on task on iReady will earn raffle tickets for our end-of-year drawing for an iPad. When I logged onto iReady this morning and checked last week’s time- on-task report, I was pleased to see that four students met that benchmark last week: J.S. and S.W. from 3rd grade, M.G. from 4th grade, and V.H. from 5th grade. If these students belong to you, please congratulate them for me.
DCPS Learning Packets for weeks 2 and 3 are not yet ready for pickup at Stoddert; I will send another notification when they are ready for pickup. As a reminder, these learning packets are hard copies of the exact same material that can be electronically accessed on Canvas. To avoid leaving your home to pick the packets up, you can download the packets from Canvas, and then either print a few pages at a time, or have your children complete the work on regular paper. If you choose to pick up a hard copy, we will print as many copies as needed to ensure that everyone who wants hard copies gets them.
Thank you for the great work you’re doing with your children, and for your continued support.
