I welcome you and your child to Stoddert Health and Physical Education 2018-2019. Physical Education at Stoddert is based on the SPARK curriculum model. SPARK emphasizes teamwork, skill acquisition, and effort over competition. Students will engage in many activities throughout the year that will allow them to develop important lifelong skills. A highlight of the older students’ curriculum (grades 4-5) will be our NASP archery program. Archery was introduced at Stoddert in 2014-15 and created a large amount of excitement. A new curriculum for all age groups that will be added in 2018-2019 is the USA Baseball Fun At Bat program. This program emphasizes small-sided games that utilize important skills like throwing, catching and striking.
One of the philosophies that governs physical education at Stoddert is for students to remain physically active throughout their life. That is why we introduce them to so many different sports, games and activities throughout the year.
Athletics at Stoddert has become an important way to support this goal. Stoddert will be introduced to cheerleading, basketball, and archery as sports during the winter of 2018-2019. These sports will supplement our current offerings of cross-country (fall), indoor track (winter), and outdoor track (spring). All sports are for 4th and 5th grade students only.
Other extracurricular physical activity offerings that all students can participate in include BOKS (https://www.bokskids.org) morning workouts, Stoddert hikes, and the various physical activity field trips that we participate in throughout the year.
I look forward to working with both students and their parents to have a great year of physical education at Stoddert Elementary. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
