The following is an update from Stoddert’s garden coordinator, Mr. Canada…
We received our Mason Bee House this past week. Most of our students are learning more and more about our mason and leaf cutter bees which will arrive on March 19th.
Our First graders are building their own Mason Bee House. Fifth graders are helping build nesting tubes for their houses.
There are mason bee Informational posters in our hallways. Hopefully you will get a chance to view them. If you have any question regarding the installation of solitary bees in our garden please feel free to ask me.
Pre-K planted flower and vegetable seeds this past week along with a garden visit!
Stoddert Fifth Grade Garden Legacy Project is off to a good start. Our students completed activity 2 this past week.
They have begun a “Garden to Market” group project beginning with assigned garden box, seed selection, inside seed germination, transplanting seedling in garden, plant vegetable management, and finally preparing their produce for our spring farmer’s market.
I’ m happy to report that I ordered three additional portable compost bins for student/parent use. They will arrive this coming Tuesday.
