Stoddert fourth grader, Jack H., won first place for his essay about why Stoddert has the best school garden in the city.
Washington, DC is home to 128 schools with gardens. The Office of the State Superintendent’s Gilda Allen Best School Garden Award challenged students across the city to write a short essay answering the question: “Why is your school garden the best school garden in the District?”
One winner from each category (K-2; 3-5; 6-8; 9-12) received:
- Recognition at the Growing Healthy Schools Month Awards Ceremony;
- The coveted “Golden Shovel” for display in the school garden;
- A $25 gift certificate to Amazon for each student to help them continue their love for learning outside;
- $500 for the school garden to continue the work demonstrated in the submission for this award; and
- Title of the “2018 Best School Garden” in the District.
Congratulations and a big Wolfpack thank you to Jack H. and to our school’s garden coordinator, Mr. Canada, for all of your hard work and for taking pride in our garden.
