The following is an update from Fillmore Art Center’s director, Maggie Meenehan…
Good morning all!
Yes, the year is off to a wonderful start! Buses are BIG and two classes can fit on each bus. And…. wait for it….. they have been on time! We are back to our original schedule of two one hour classes beginning at 9:30 and ending at 2:30. The teachers are enthusiastic about the coming year and planning new and wonderful projects with the students.
Just to update everyone: Our weekly schedule: Monday – West Educational Campus, Tuesday – Stoddert ES, Wednesday am -Key and Stoddert Kindergartens and Wednesday pm – Ross ES, Thursday – Key ES and Friday’s River Terrace Educational Campus. We currently have seven full time positions – four staff members share job positions. We serve Pre-K at Ross and Key.
Please plan to attend our Back to School/Be an Artist Night on September 26 (Tuesday) from 6-8 pm. This is a fun night for everyone to meet the teachers and enjoy “learning through the arts”. Participants get a chance to choose an art area to explore.
We welcome a new business manager Mr. Farley Salazar, who was with Roosevelt STAY for many years. Please stop by to introduce yourself.
I wanted to congratulate one of our long time supporters Peter Eisler (former Hyde parent and writer) for his very engaging article in the September Smithsonian Magazine. Please check it out!
I am humbly indebted to all of our supporters and board members for their insights, knowledge and help with continuing the artistic mission of Fillmore Arts Center. You made this year happen! You have preserved high quality arts education for at least 1,200 DC Public School children.
