2011-2012 Proposed Budget

The categories are briefly explained below and include items that have already been purchased by the PTA in preparation for the beginning of the school year, 2011-12:

PTA operations: bookkeeping, tax prep, bank charges, liability insurance and communications

Teacher supported funds: teacher stipends, teacher initiatives and classroom materials

  1. Teacher stipends: each teacher received $750 to purchase materials for his/her classroom for the coming year. Past purchases have included: math manipulatives, classroom library books, science materials, and sets of novels 26 teachers X $750=$19,500
  2. Common Core Curriculum materials to support the new DCPS curriculum including workbooks for grades 1-5, teacher guides and an online program that will be available soon to students, as well as training for teachers in the use of the program $5,223
  3. Classroom library books for new kindergarten and first grade classrooms $1,300
  4. Wilson Reading Program for Special Education and reading intervention $785

Technology:

  1. Promethean board for new first grade classroom $3,347
  2. Sound system upgrade and additional microphones for the stage $2,865
  3. Non-academic expenses: Babysitting and pizza at PTA meetings, school-wide programs, assemblies and picnics, Kinkos expenditures, library materials, field trip scholarships,fifth grade graduation and grants
  4. Back to school potluck pizza and drinks $775

Principal’s discretionary fund:

  1. Additional folders for home/school communication $105

School Improvements: classroom improvements, playground/recess equipment, school yard/garden

  1. Membership and participation in Natural Partners Monarch Migration curriculum program and partnership with sister school in Mexico $1,175
