Bike Rodeo is the term Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) uses for a fun, hands-on exercise using bikes and an obstacle course to teach kids the skills they need. We need to get plenty of community feedback on a proposed “Bike Rodeo” in Glover Park this coming spring. If there is sufficient interest, we plan to approach ANC3B for funding. BASIS Charter School will open in August 2012 serving students in grades 5 through 8 at a new building in Penn Quarter. The school will hold parent information sessions from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thurs. Jan. 12 (Georgetown Public Library) and Tues. Jan. 17 (Palisades Neighborhood Library). Read flyer.
Stoddert parents Mitch Wander and Brian Cohen (who is also the ANC commissioner for Glover Park and Cathedral Heights) have been working with local police to address a question that’s been raised in neighborhood discussions. Winter classes will be offered at the Stoddert Recreation Center beginning Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Registration will begin on Tuesday, January 10 at 9:00 a.m. online, and at 3:00 p.m. in person.
NEW DATE | Parents searching for a middle school can attend DCPS’s middle school fair on Thursday, February 9, from 6p to 8p at the Columbia Heights Education Campus. DC Public middle schools, education campuses & DCPS community partners will showcase their academic programs & extracurricular activities for parents.

The first parent- teacher meeting of 2012 was held in the library at Stoddert on Jan 5 at 6:30p. The President, Katy Youel-Page, opened the meeting and welcomed everyone back. Next week (Jan. 9) students in grades 3-5 will choose new classes for the second semester, which starts Jan. 30. Stoddert afternoon students will perform for parents Friday Jan. 27 at 1:30 p.m.
