Ms. Denea Bruce, ET-15 Library Media
Specialist
Greetings from the Benjamin Stoddert
Elementary School Library Media Center! The Stoddert
Library Media Center is a simple room with a profound
mission—to expand knowledge and cultivate bookworms.
Our library program provides students with instruction,
guidance, and research assistance designed to familiarize
students with the resources available in the library, teach
students to analyze the comparative value of each resource,
and to ensure that they select the appropriate resource to
meet their information need.
Stoddert students visit the library in class specific small groups, and enjoy a 45 minute library lesson each week. The library curriculum is aligned with DC and National Standards for information and literacy. Students generally engage in a 30 minute standards based lesson, which frequently includes a read-aloud. Thereafter, they peruse our collection and check out a book of their choosing.
