The students at Stoddert attend the nearby Fillmore Art Center (FAC) for arts education once per week. Fillmore Art Center is a dedicated arts instruction center for D.C. public school students. Each student from Stoddert spends a half day at Fillmore taking two hour-long classes.
Students in Pre-K through grade 2 attend Fillmore in the morning and rotate through visual arts, music, dance and drama throughout the year. Students in grades 3-5 attend Fillmore in the afternoon and choose classes from a wide variety of art areas including drama, dance, band, strings, guitar, ukulele, digital arts, ceramics, drawing and painting, musical theater and interrelated arts. (Kindergarten attends on Mondays and all other grades attend on Fridays.)
Fillmore hosts several events throughout the year for parents to visit the center and learn more about their child’s art education, including Back To School night, open houses, performances and concerts. The Fillmore Arts Center is a DCPS program fully funded by the public school system that is unique in that is serve children from 5 DCPS schools. The Friends of Fillmore (FOF) is a parent-run 501c3 organization that fundraises for FAC and supports the teachers and the mission of the Fillmore program.
