Two schools, two weeks and one purpose: to ensure that Cardozo and Takoma students have a successful school opening in January. If you can help, you’ll choose the day, site and time block that you are able to volunteer. A member of the DCPS School Operations team will reach out to you directly with confirmation and directions for the day of volunteering. More info in the post.
Saturday, August 20, and Sunday, August 21, DCPS is partnering with the Washington Nationals to host a School Supply Drive for DCPS students. They need 20 volunteers each day who can help collect school supplies from game attendees before they enter the stadium. The Nationals will provide one pass for the game to each volunteer. RSVP is required.
The garden that we built together has been a huge success this year. The crops are growing beautifully, the students enjoyed a wonderful harvest day organized by parents, and as Dr. Cuthbert said to us, the students and teachers are “jazzed” about it. Now that the summer months are here, it falls to us as a community to ensure that the garden is maintained (watered and weeded) and that the bounty of produce doesn’t go to waste!
This coming Tuesday Stoddert’s 3rd-, 4th- and 5th-graders will have a “salad party” in the Stoddert garden. The party will be an opportunity for the students to experience the garden in a hands-on way. Students will harvest and wash the spring greens and herbs they planted and helped grow, and then sample them with delicious dressings they’ll help make. We still need volunteers for the day and a few supplies. Details and contact information in the post.
A very big Thank You to all parents, children, and teachers/staff at Stoddert ES for a fabulous 2 years of support in the PTA co-president role.
