Stoddert listed as a five-star school by Great Schools; Stoddert’s new Fundamentals of Writing program; Pre-K lottery dates announced.
From Stoddert Teacher Bonnie Moisan: The school held a writing contest that was open to 3rd, 4th and 5th. The theme was “The Relatives Came” and students wrote 5 paragraphs about a visit with relatives. Here are the top placers in this year’s contest, as judged by Dr. Cuthbert, Mrs.Barr, Ms. Stevenson, Ms. Gross and Mrs. Moisan.
Kids’ Post has a story today about astronomer Paul Butler’s visit to Mr. Dingledine’s 5th-grade class last month. Mr. Butler discovered the planet Gliese 581g, “believed to be the first planet other than Earth that could support life.” Student Laurence Zeffler is quoted in the story.
This year, funding from the Stoddert PTA coupled with the enthusiastic support of Stoddert’s teachers has enabled all students in grades three, four, and five to use Stanford’s Education Program for Gifted Youth. The teachers and PTA want to make sure that parents have all the information they need to be fully comfortable with the time our children are investing in EPGY.

On June 2, 2010, Mr. Dingledine’s fifth graders visited the Swiss Embassy for their end-of-year presentations and musical performance to demonstrate what they’ve learned about Switzerland this year.
In preparation for the upcoming math competition on June 3, Stoddert students in Grades 3 through 5 competed today. Mr. Duff and Dr. Pesek led the competition. Sample problems and the winners after the jump.
