Mr. Duff is offering ongoing math challenges to the third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students. Meet the winners of last month’s contest!
After all the snow it has been really great to get back into the routine. Remember parent-teacher conferences on March 1, read about the new Extra Help Program, get involved in the PTA. Don’t forget to support the cookie fundraiser and to buy your bricks!
EXTENDED DEADLINE: Just one purchase per family would go a long way to help all Stoddert’s fifth-graders attend their end-of-the-year trip to Echo Hills Outdoor School.
Stoddert held its school-level bee on Thursday, January 14. Math resource teacher Alex Treduff (Mr. Duff), was the organizer and moderator. The questions were very challenging, and ranged from world geography, to U.S. rivers bordering states, to which European country produces the most cotton. Mrs. Barr and Mrs. Moisan offered an after-the-holiday writing challenge. Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 were asked to sign up to write about a memorable moment over the holiday break. The essays were due January 8. The winning essay was submitted by third-grader Henry Mahnke, who is in Ms. Chatalian’s class.

Thanks to the PTA and parent donations of activity fees, time, and resources, Stoddert “East” has lovely play areas for the students in the front and back of the trailers. Your donations also help purchase teachers’ supplies, field trips (through scholarships), teacher trainings, and classroom libraries.
There has been lots of discussion about the traffic problem near the front of the school. Thankfully, we now have Sharon, our new crossing guard. Even so, parents pulling up to let kids out in front of and between buses is dangerous, as is double parking.
