Stoddert has won a Sponsor-a-Hive grant from The Honeybee Conservancy. Coming this spring, we will be adding bees to our school garden! Through the grant, Stoddert will receive at bee “cottage” or home, courtesy of grant sponsor, Crown Bees. We will also receive mason and leafcutter bees, reusable wood tray holes for both types of bees, and an information on how to care for our bees.
Stoddert fourth grader, Jack H., won first place for his essay about why Stoddert has the best school garden in the city. Washington, DC is home to 128 schools with gardens. The Office of the State Superintendent’s Gilda Allen Best School Garden Award challenged students across the city to write a short essay answering the question:

You and your family can get in on the action and help the garden grow by composting your items and bringing them to the garden on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Over the past few years Stoddert has received several grants through the Office of State Superintendents of Education (OSSE) that were critical in providing enhancements for the Stoddert student community. These grants were written by a Stoddert PTO parent volunteer, with the assistance of Coach Wagner and other Stoddert staff. In total Stoddert has received
Stoddert garden is going through extensive renovations over the summer months beginning with the implementation of new raised garden boxes, an additional circular garden for our students, and increase in foliage to attract our pollinator friends.
