There are lots of great opportunities to volunteer in DC Public schools, some starting immediately. These schools are looking for a variety of skills and in most cases offer flexible hours. Volunteer an hour or two and make a difference!

Join other parents, community members and DCPS staff for a discussion about what should be included on the DCPS School Scorecard—a tool that will give you the information you want about how well each DCPS school is performing.

DC State Board of Education Public Meeting | May 19

On May 19, 2010, DCSBOE will have a public meeting to vote on the proposed No Child Left Behind Report Card. Additionally, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will give presentations to the State Board on the District’s high risk designation, school improvement activities, common core state standards, and Phase II of the Race to the Top application.

Art Night: A Celebration of Aspiring Student Artists | May 5

The evening’s proceeds benefit DC Public Education Fund, a non-profit organization with a mission to dramatically improve student achievement in the District of Columbia by serving as a strategic partner to businesses, foundations, community leaders, and individual donors in supporting and investing in high-impact programs with the District of Columbia Public Schools.

DPR Offers Spring Break Camps for District Youth

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation will offer DPR Spring Break Camps for District youth ages 5–13 from March 29 – April 2, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. DPR Spring Break Camps are in line with the District of Columbia Public Schools’ spring break and will provide youth with a variety of structured games, activities, sports, arts and crafts, and field trips while school is not in session.

D.C.I.A.A. Championship Game

The District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association Basketball Championship Game features the top teams of DCPS! These teams will compete not just to win the DCIAA Championship, but also for the chance to play in the City Title Game on March 14th at the Verizon Center. General Admission $10, Students with ID $5. Come out on Saturday, March 6, 2010!
