The following is a message to all Stoddert families from the PTO President about end-of-year events…
For those of you who could not attend last night’s PTO meeting, I wanted to highlight some changes to our end-of-year calendar. This year, we will not be having an International Night Parent Potluck, All-School Awards Ceremony or All-School Last Day of School Party.
At last night’s PTO meeting, some parents expressed concern about these changes, while other parents were supportive of them. We will never please everyone. I do, however, want you to know that these changes were thoughtfully and intentionally made, having heard concerns from teachers, parents, and administration about the events with regard to availability of parent volunteers, teachers’ time, and safety of our students.
I am happy to chat with anyone about the details of these concerns and also to listen to your concerns. You can see me at drop-off/pick-up or contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Each year, we add more and more to the calendar without taking a step back to ask what the impact is on the calendar as a whole and how each event changes with the ever-growing population of our school. The end-of-year calendar continues to be a struggle for us to manage the number of times we are requesting both parent volunteers and parent presence at the school, as well as the number of times kids are out of their classrooms.
This coming year, we will be planning the calendar in advance with many of these and your concerns in mind. If you would like to volunteer to help in this process, please contact me at email@example.com.
