The following is a letter from Principal Bryant regarding this year’s PARCC testing…
Dear Stoddert Families:
PARCC testing will begin in early April for students in grades 3-5. Our students had great success last year on PARCC, and we hope to build on that success for the 2016 assessment.
PARCC testing is administered via digital devices. The technology skills that students need in order to successfully navigate the testing include:
- Keyboarding. Students need enough familiarity with the keyboard that they know where keys are, where the number pad is, where the F row is, and how keys are laid out. They don’t need to be touch typists or even use all fingers, but they need basic keyboard familiarity.
- Basic computer skills. To successfully complete the PARCC assessment, students will need to be able to perform many technology tasks including:
- Select object
- Select area
- Drag and drop
- Select text
- Select and drag/slide
- Use text highlighter
- Use calculator
- Plot points
- Use protractor
- Use video player
- Stamina. Students will need to type for extended periods without complaint, which requires stamina.
Our students are working on these skills during their Information Literacy periods, and in their regular classrooms. To supplement that instruction, it will be very helpful if parents will work with their children at home to reinforce these skills.
