Dear Stoddert Families:
We are in the midst of a very successful Professional Development week for staff members. During this week, teachers have analyzed data, received training in differentiated instruction, and learned about the district’s new Cornerstone Project initiative. They’ve also been busy getting classrooms ready for Friday’s Sneak Peek event, and for the opening of school on Monday, August 24th.
We’ve received results for four of our five SY14/15 Chancellor Goals, and expect to receive results for the fifth Chancellor Goal by the end of this week. The good news is: we EXCEEDED the four Chancellor Goals for which we have results! More details will be shared at Back to School Night on September 8.
Our overall focus for the year is CIA: Collaboration, Innovation, and Alignment. Staff members will be focusing throughout the year on these three key elements, in our quest to continually improve a school that is already high-performing.
I’ve very excited to introduce two new members of the Leadership Team: Assistant Principal Ibis Villegas, and Mary Jane Patterson Resident Principal Clinton Turner. Both Mrs. Villegas and Mr. Turner have multiple years experience as DCPS Assistant Principals, and thus bring a wealth of institutional knowledge with them. Mr. Turner will be with us for the first semester, and then serve as Resident Principal of a different DCPS school as he completes the Mary Jane Patterson Fellowship experience.
Our playground renovation is nearing completion. There is a very good chance that it will be completed by the end of this week, and will be ready for students to enjoy on the first day of school. Our entrance and dismissal procedures will be dictated by the playground progress; if it’s completed on schedule, we’ll use an outdoor entrance and dismissal plan, and if it’s not completed on schedule we’ll use an indoor plan. We’ll communicate the plan to you on Friday, August 21.
Friday, August 21 is also the date of our Sneak Peek event. From 2:30-3:00 on that date students and parents will have the opportunity to find their classrooms, drop off supplies, and meet teachers. This is literally a sneak peek event, and is not the time for extended conversations with teachers. At 3:00, an announcement will be made for all guests to report to the gym, where you will receive about opening day procedures, and learn about our Parent/Teacher Organization.
I look forward to seeing you in a few days!
