Stoddert Elementary

PTA Executive Board Minutes 8/8/12

Introductions – The PTA members present introduced themselves to new principal Patricia Pride (patricia.pride@dc.gov).

PTA President’s report: Katy Youel Page welcomed the new principal. The summer mailing has just gone out (containing PTA information as well as the welcome letters and school supply lists from teachers). The School Supply drive filled 18 backpacks. There will be assistance available for Stoddert families who may need school supplies/backpacks. This will be coordinated through Mrs. Zachary.

Principal’s Report: Enrollment is officially at 326, but is slotted for 350. The kindergartens are full with about 22 children/class. No one will be taken from the waiting list. The former co-op classroom will be emptied and cleaned by the time the teachers return from school. Ms. Terrell’s classroom will move in there. All books and materials have been delivered to the school and are being distributed to classrooms.

Re grounds: The landscaping contract has expired and DCPS will only be mowing grass. All weeding and other landscaping is up to the school/PTA. Casey Trees has a plan to plant a number of new trees on the property – including fruit trees. There are some dead/dying trees that need to be removed. We would like to reach out to the community in case there are any parents who could donate landscaping services to handle this.

Teacher Report (Jinny Choi): Miss Kealey has been working in the garden all summer. She is going to make a proposal to the PTA to increase her funding so she would be able to be at Stoddert 3 days/week. She will need help on Beautification Day.

LSAT report: None
