Stoddert Elementary

This Week from Dr. Cuthbert | June 8 (Final Blast!)

Hi All,

As we approach the last leg of another school-year marathon, the Stoddert Wolves are true winners. On the Text Reading Comprehension (TRC), 85% of all students are proficient and above. My kudos to our teachers and you. Please let me say thank you to all of you for sharing your child(ren) with us and supporting us on every leg of the race for excellence. We did all of this while also being recognized by the US Department of Education as one of the first Green Ribbon schools. Yeah! Stoddert Wolves!

On this past Friday morning, the upper grades had their Awards Day. The teachers presented awards to many students for citizenship; improvement; outstanding achievement in reading, math, and all subjects; student council; safety patrols; writing; and other achievements. Presidential Awards for Excellence were presented to 5th graders who achieved a 3.5 grade-point average (GPA) of 4th & 5th-grade marks and also scored Advanced on the DC CAS, math or reading. Presidential Awards for Achievement were also presented to those students who achieved GPAs of 3.0 and achieved Proficient on either math or reading. The certificates, presented by me (what a privilege) to the students, were signed by President Obama. The students also received pins of recognition. In the afternoon, the Pre-K and K students also received awards for reading 50-100 books this year, math accomplishments, citizenship, and good attendance. The Awards Day for 1st & 2nd grade students will be Monday, June 11th @ 10:30 a.m. in the gym.

On June 12th from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m., all students will move up to the next level and meet the teachers for that grade level. It will be a fun day as the PTA will provide ice cream for all the students. “Scoops” will serve about 350 eager students at about 1:30 p.m. in the back-porch area. What fun!

There is a Ward 3 meeting at Wilson HS from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on June 12, 2012. Please check the website for more information. All of the Ward 3 schools are asked to be there, so, if you can come, I will see you there.

Parents of 5th graders, the Promotion Ceremony is June 13th at 9:30 a.m. in the gym. Please help spread the word. There will be some student performances, short speeches, and the presentation of the promotion certificates to the students. Light refreshments will be served in the back of the gym. After the ceremony, you may certainly check out your child to be with family. School will be in session and your child can remain with us, if you wish. Promoted fifth-graders are also welcome on the half-day of June 14th – school will be in session and they may come. School will be in session.

It has been another successful and very “green year.” I would like to reiterate my sincere thanks for supporting our school. I do wish you a healthy and happy summer break. Best to all !
