Stoddert Elementary

This Week from Dr. Cuthbert | June 1st

Hi All,

Thank you to the parents of 253 students who have already registered for next year. You have helped us so……much. Here I go, yet again————47 parents have indicated, by returning intent forms, that you are coming back, but you have not officially reregistered — Please REGISTER for next year. There are still some families at EVERY GRADE LEVEL who can help us get this accomplished. Please do this before school is out and also spare everyone from more phone-home messages from me. If you register, it means we can do real planning this summer and be ready to open in August and also be properly staffed, materials purchased, and ready, set, go for your child(ren)!

Monday, June 4th, will be a happy day for Stoddert ES. The US Department of Education will present its first Green Ribbon Schools awards at a national ceremony. I am honored to receive this on behalf of the entire school and community. I will update you next week on how it went. I hope they give us a plaque for our display cabinet that can stand proudly by the “Pennies for Patients” awards that our Student Council continues to win due to your generous support.

Our students in grades 2-5 have one more set of assessments to take on June 4th & June 5th. These are the Paced Interim Assessments (PIAs). They will be given in the mornings of these days. On Wednesday (June 6th) at 1:30 p.m. we will have our all-school Talent Show. The students have been practicing and auditioning. It should be lots of fun. Several Awards Days are also coming up. On June 8th, the upper grades will give their awards in the morning at 9:30 a.m., the 1st & 2nd graders on 6/11 @ 10:30 a.m. and the Pre-K & K with the date and time forthcoming.

Parents of 5th graders, the Promotion Ceremony is June 13h at 9:30 a.m. in the gym. Please help spread the word. There will be some student performances, short speeches, and the presentation of the promotion certificates to the students. Light refreshments will be served in the back of the gym. After the ceremony, you may certainly check out your child to be with family. School will be in session and your child can remain with us, if you wish. Promoted fifth-graders are also welcome on Thursday, June 14th for the half-day, as school will be in session and they may come.

You know where to find me or reach me, marjorie.cuthbert@dc.gov. Have a healthy and happy weekend.
