Special Meeting to Plan Principal Search

Thursday, June 28

6:30 pm

Hello Stoddert Parents and Community,

As you may have heard already, Dr. Cuthbert has resigned her position at Stoddert effective August 3rd. She is returning to Wisconsin to help care for her grandchildren. We are of course quite sad to see her go because she has been a tremendous leader for Stoddert these past three years. However, we also understand her dedication to her family. You can read her resignation letter here.

The Stoddert community has an important role to fill in identifying her replacement. DCPS has a well organized process (read more here) for making principal hires culminating in a set of interviews by a committee which will include faculty, staff and parents from Stoddert, among others. As a community we need to quickly elect three parents and one alternate to serve on the committee. Every Stoddert parent is eligible to be considered for this committee. It will require several hours of time including at least one interview preparation meeting and at least one full day of interviews at DCPS headquarters at a time to be determined. We believe the sooner we are ready to interview candidates the better as there are other DC elementary schools also needing principal replacements.

As such we will hold an open meeting this Thursday, June 28th at 6:30 at Stoddert Elementary to elect committee representation. We are working to secure childcare for the meeting but that is not yet a sure thing. PLEASE check the website this week for additional information on the meeting as we will post information there as soon as possible. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person you are still be eligible for being elected to the committee. Please send your name and interest to Ebony Akinsanya (ebonydavis74@hotmail.com). Ebony is the Local School Advisory Team Chair and has graciously agreed to serve as the liaison to DCPS for this process.

We also ask that you RSVP to Nitchet Quarles (nnewton@msn.com) if you plan to come so that we can plan for the right number of people.

Once we are through the selection process for the committee, the PTA will turn our attention to planning a suitable send-off for Dr. Cuthbert. She is certainly leaving Stoddert on very solid footing and we will want to celebrate her tenure.

Best,

Caitlin and Katy
