Stoddert Elementary

This Week from Dr. Cuthbert | May 18

Hi Parents and Guardians,

Can you believe that we are only in the teens of counting until the school year ends? The last date of school is June 14, 2012. It is a short day, with dismissal at 12:15 p.m.

It was fun to enjoy an early evening at Fillmore on Tuesday, to see all the students in grades 3-5 performing for a large audience of parents from Fillmore East and West. There were Stoddert Wolves who performed with the orchestra, band, or chorus. We are fortunate to have our Fillmore teachers and principal work with us to foster the love of the arts. It was such fun to see our students excel in another environment, the medium of music.

Thank you, beyond belief, for reregistering your child(ren) for next year. We now have moved from 25 % of students reregistered to closer to 52% of our total. However, what this really means is that as of now, we could fund only one-half of our school. If you have turned in your intent to return, that is admirable, but it does not count toward generating our staff for next year. Only when you actually turn in your NEW registration papers and reprove, ONCE AGAIN, that you are in our boundary, or a DC resident, do you count toward our overall verified student enrollment. The system does not automatically assume that children currently attending Stoddert will be enrolled next year. If you know that you really are not coming back and have not told us, please do so. The waiting lists are very long and strong. You have been most helpful in finding new families. We have 28 brand-new-K students registered for next school year. THANKS – this helps us plan for a class and to better meet the needs of all! PLEASE continue to find your neighbors and friends and tell them how important it is to get to school and REGISTER! We are open all Thursday nights in May to help get this task accomplished. There are still 106 families of returning students who have not yet registered. This year, more than ever, it is imperative that you register NOW if you want to help Stoddert remain a very SUCCESSFUL school. We may not be able to fill our vacancies if we do not show VERIFIED enrollments that general the number of teachers we need to meet our students needs.

As many of you know, our Field Day will be May 22nd, with Pre-K- 2nd participating in the morning and 3-5th graders participating in the afternoon. International Day/Night is scheduled for May 24th and much more information will be coming. A Talent Show will be held June 6th from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. – more info coming. We will have a Moving-Up Day, where all students (except 5th) move up to the next level to meet teachers, that will be held June 12th — PTA will provide ice cream for all. The 5th Grade Promotion will be held June 13th at 9:30 a.m. in our own gymnasium. The last day of school will be June 14th, with early dismissal of students at 12:15 p.m., as the afternoon is used for the teachers’ records keeping. I know I am repeating dates again, but just wanted to make sure everyone is up-to-date.

Oh, no, here I go again————Please REGISTER for next year (if you have not) or tell us if you are leaving. We need to: 1) plan the use of spaces, as we are growing in the lower grades at a tremendous rate; and 2) make staffing decisions for another successful year for the Stoddert Wolves, that are critical to maintaining excellence for the Stoddert ES. THANKS!
