Earlier this month Stoddert 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-graders were invited to submit a short essay on the theme “What does Valentine’s Day mean to you?” The winning authors were Ella Gantman and Adam Bressler, both in Ms Prosser’s fourth-grade class. Their winning essays are attached as a PDF.
Story Pirates is coming to Stoddert on Saturday, February 26, at 2PM. Tickets are $20. The stories are entirely written by kids and brought to life by professional comedians and musicians. This show will feature a new group story by second-graders from Stoddert! Story Pirates is a nationally respected arts and creative writing organization founded in 2003 to celebrate the words and ideas of young people, to promote literacy as a vital part of early childhood education, and to preserve the spark of youthful creativity often lost in the transition to adulthood.
This week’s updates: Academic Night was a success; the garden area and natural play areas are progressing; date reminders for Family Fun Night, parent-teacher conferences, and the March PTA meeting; no word yet on next year’s budget.
Please join us at Stoddert on Tuesday, February 15, for our first-ever Academic Night. It is a night you will not want to miss. There will be 13 different sessions for parents to learn more about reading and mathematics instruction, the Education Program for Gifted and Talented (EPGY), DC BAS and CAS assessments, testing vocabulary for ELL students, etc. Download a calendar to see full details.
This is the time of the year to look around to appreciate our teachers, our children’s learning environment, and all the support systems that surround family life.
