This Week, from Dr. Cuthbert | April 30, 2010
Hello to Everyone!
Wow – DC CAS testing is over and ready to ship for scoring. All of the Stoddert Wolves were engaged and trying their very best; they were dedicated to “show what they know.” The monitor out of the Chancellor’s Office complimented our testing coordinators, Wanda Zachary and Iris Ogburn, and could not believe how engaged and dedicated our students were every single day. She said she had to brag about us! Thanks for having your children come to school for these very important days and having them there on time. You were wonderful. Please keep up this stellar effort for our regular instructional days too. Additionally, thanks to all of you, via PTA, for supplying a daily snack and lots of water to our test takers. We gave them breaks everyday and they loved the snacks.
New Stoddert ES is about 75% complete as reported at the School Improvement Team (SIT) meeting this past week. Furniture has been ordered, drywall is going into many sections, the parking lot awaits another coat of asphalt, brick walls are being completed, and many more windows are being installed. It is taking shape so quickly and the spaces to be utilized are quite amazing. Stay tuned as we march toward completion.
Perhaps you have seen the notices, but I did want to make you aware that the Chancellor will be at Janney ES (Thursday, May 6th from 6-8 p.m.) for input from Ward 3 parents and community members. Each participant will have five minutes to talk to the chancellor, raise an issue, provide feedback, or ask a question.
Under the auspices of the Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization (OPEFM), the DC School Improvement Team for Stoddert will meet on Wednesday, May 26th at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Master Facility Plan (MFP) meeting. Everyone in the community is invited to both of these meetings to hear about progress on Stoddert, and information regarding the citywide plans.
Just a couple of friendly reminders: Class pictures are on May 5th; new families are invited to our last Open House on May 6th at either 9:30 or 10:30; Science Fair for grades 3-5 is May 11th and for Pre-K-2 on May 14th; and promotion exercises for 5th graders will be June 17th at the Russian Embassy. Stay tuned for other dates as they develop.
THANKS, as always, for your continued support of the Stoddert Wolves, teachers, and me!
Dr. Marjorie Cuthbert
