Stoddert Elementary

This Week, from Dr. Cuthbert | March 7

Hello Everyone,

If you haven’t had a chance to walk the block around the school, please try to fit this in to see the terrific progress on the new school.  It’s quite amazing and so exciting to anticipate actually moving into it in August. We’re told that the new school is on schedule and many meetings are taking place to help coordinate different aspects of the new school’s opening. This past week, we met about telephones, bells, clocks, and locks.  DCPS is implementing e-faxes in the new building, which Stoddert has been chosen to pilot, in anticipation of this service being adopted permanently in our new school and in others. We’re also excited about the new desks and gorgeous red chairs that will fill the classrooms, and anticipate having Promethean interactive white boards and new Apple computers for the students. Wow – we are a very fortunate community!

March 4th was a membership-reporting day, which means that all schools officially report their current enrollment numbers to the district. We are now 50% boys (144) and 50% girls (144). We’re anticipating several new students next week so this will change again.  We’re also trying hard to predict our enrollment for next school year.  PLEASE turn in your Letter of Intent for the 2010-2011 school year.  It’s due March 19.  The majority of you have done so, but we need everyone to let us know.  We have many families who are on our lottery lists who want to come to Stoddert.  We want everyone back, but if you are not able to be with us for any reason, please let us know.  We can offer our seats to those who wish to be with us as soon as we know your plans.  THANKS in advance for getting your forms to us.

I will hope to see you at the Little Chili on March 12th!

–Dr. Marjorie Cuthbert
