This Week, from Dr. Cuthbert | March 27
Dear Parents,
The neighborhood School Improvement Team met this past week and learned that the new school is on target for August completion. The west wing is progressing with the curtain/wall complete on the south elevation. The roofing is partially complete and the interior framing is 75% complete. Interior framing of the basement is 25 % complete. The brick façade of the gym and administration area has been started. The roofing work on the existing building is complete and interior drywall installation has started. If you have the opportunity, take a walk around the block and you will see the amazing progress that is being made. WOW!!
This past week the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders participated in a Career Day arranged by our counselor, Mrs. Wanda Zachary. It was a pleasure to welcome our presenters: Honorable Judge Merrick Garland, US Court of Appeals; Ali Kianersi, VP of Adams National Bank; Zabrina Dempson, Esq., Senior Operations Manager for DC Superior Court; Christine Kharazian, professional musician; Roger Watson, Architect; Galib Israfilov, Diplomat of the Embassy of Azerbaijan; Officers T. Thomas and J. Hardee with McGruff the Crime Dog, Metropolitan Police Department; and Stephanie Lipscomb, Senior Executive of Adams National Bank. Ask your students about the wonderful presentations that they attended. We appreciate the support of our professionals.
We concluded our celebration of Black History Month with four presentations of a play written and directed by our instructional aide, Ms. Thompson. The actors and actresses took the roles of important people in Black history and acted out scenes to portray the historical times. All of the other students were the audiences that learned much from the performances. Thanks to all the teachers and parents who helped make this another Stoddert success.
Please enjoy your Spring Break. I hope you have many happy times with family, friends, and neighbors. We will all meet back at Stoddert East on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. HAPPY BREAK!
