Stoddert Elementary

Executive PTA meeting February 18

The February meeting was attended by Dr. Cuthbert, Ms. Gross, Mimi Laver, Mary McLaughlin, Jen Sweeney, Beth Mailley, Mitch Wander, Erik Warga, Molly Evans, Anastasia Miller and Ginger Jacobs.

Dr. Cuthbert began the meeting with news that DCPS has approved the latest school budget for next year.   Stoddert will be increasing it’s staff by a full time instructional coach, part time special education coordinator and part time custodian.  She has been fielding lots of inquiries for new families interested in Stoddert for next year.   She touched briefly on opportunities for “Future Initiatives” at Stoddert.   Our school has a unique opportunity to design an educational program using an “international perspective on environmental and energy issues”.   More discussion about this at the next PTA meeting March 18th!

Fundraising is underway for the 5th grade Echo Hill trip.  Proceeds from the Cookie dough sales will help defray students’ costs.

Building Community Brick by Brick campaign has begun with kids wearing their hardhats and bringing information and order forms home.   Sales are coming in via orders on the website as well as order forms going into the PTA box in the main office vestibule.  Discussion of  ways to get the message out included hanging a bulletin board in the front hallway for students, classes and families to see updated charts in the race for top sellers.   Note the thermometer in front of the school to count our success!

The Little Chili Family Fun Night will be Friday March 12 from 6p-9p at the Russian Embassy.  They have generously donated the space and there will be food and games for all ages.  A cash bar will be staffed by parents and some fun items and class art projects will be auctioned off.  The cost is $10 per person (3 and under are free).  Completed attendance form and payment must be returned to your child’s teacher by March 9.  Tickets offered in advance only.  No ticket sales at the door.   Definitely a fun event for the entire family and the whole Stoddert community!

Several positions on the PTA executive board will be available at the end of this school year.  Please take a moment to think about what areas of the PTA interest you most and/or how you’d like to get involved in shaping the next school year for Stoddert.  Discussion of the positions will take place at the March 18 PTA meeting.

In terms of communication, the website is doing a wonderful job providing current information for the Stoddert community.  Anyone interested in contributing articles or sharing things of interest with our school community is welcome.  Look soon for more information about student events and accomplishments!

Mark your calendars for the next general PTA meeting March 18th.  The Student Council and Energy Team will be there to talk about their groups’ activities and also possibly a guest speaker!
