Stoddert Students Compete in First Round of National Geographic Bee

Stoddert held its school-level bee on Thursday, January 14. Math resource teacher Alex Treduff (Mr. Duff), was the organizer and moderator. The questions were very challenging, and ranged from world geography, to U.S. rivers bordering states, to which European country produces the most cotton. After-Holiday Writing Contest Winner

Mrs. Barr and Mrs. Moisan offered an after-the-holiday writing challenge. Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 were asked to sign up to write about a memorable moment over the holiday break. The essays were due January 8. The winning essay was submitted by third-grader Henry Mahnke, who is in Ms. Chatalian’s class.

Stoddert Afterschool Classes

From program director Maria McKitterick: It is time to sign your child up for classes that will begin in February and end in June (exceptions, Science and Chess). Many classes are popular and will fill up very fast. I advise that you respond by email quickly.

Free from D.C.’s Parks and Recreation: Play Day, January 15

As you know, there is no school for students on Friday, January 15, 2010. On that day, the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will host its third DPR Play Day for students in grades K-8 from 8:30am – 5:00pm to provide structured program options for DCPS students. This program is free, and breakfast, lunch and snack will be provided.
