This Week, from Dr. Cuthbert | October 31
Hello Everyone,
What a fun Fall Festival parade the Stoddert Wolves had. It was cloudy, but it did not rain – yahoo! The students had lots of fun wearing their costumes to school and then parading around the block. Thanks to all of you who were able to come, see the parade, and join in the celebrations. Many of you were very busy decorating the room, providing snacks, and helping with the classroom activities. Your support is appreciated by all.
As you know from students who came home wearing their “I Count” stickers, we had our official enrollment count on October 28th. That’s when outside auditors come and check all the registration papers and then actually go to each room, find the individual students, and do an official classroom count. Much work has been done to get our records in tip-top shape and we should be A-OK on our audit. The teachers and students were extremely cooperative and made it all happen successfully. We will get an official report soon; if there are any errors, we will get a chance to correct them.
It’s also time for the second administration of the D BAS test, a benchmark assessment for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The students will take their assessments on the mornings of November 3rd through 5th. The results are used to identify strengths and areas needing improvement. Students needing extra support or expansion with reading and math skills will be served by our resource teachers.
The end of the first Advisory period was October 29th. Teachers are reviewing progress to date and preparing report cards, which will be sent home on November 13th.
Please remember to update any and all contact information in the front office if it has changed since enrollment. We need current telephone numbers for you at Stoddert and will update the files that trigger Connect Ed, the automatic contact system that notifies you about unexcused absences and/or tardies. Your information must be up to date for you to receive all the information you need!
Our first Open House for this school year will be Thursday, November 19th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Please let any of your neighbors and friends know so that they can come and meet us. Another formal Open House will be on January 14, 2010, at the same times. Less formal school tours will be given on December 17, February 18, and March 18 at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Please share this information with anyone who is interested.
Hope to see many of you at the general meeting of the PTA in the multi-purpose cafeteria at Stoddert East on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 6:30 p.m.!
Dr. Marjorie Cuthbert
