Stoddert Elementary

PTA Executive board meeting 10/15

Members in attendance were Dr. Cuthbert, Ms Moisan , Ms Gross, Jen Sweeney, Kevin Youel Page, Mary McLaughlin, Mimi Laver, Katy Youel Page and Ginger Jacobs.

Dr. Cuthbert gave us an update on the construction project : all is on schedule.  Dibels testing will be for all grades this year.  There is a new teacher evaluation program this year and it has already begun.  Master teachers from DCPS come to Stoddert to observe our teachers in action twice a year and Dr. Cuthbert will be doing 3 evaluations of each teacher in addition.    We officially have 285 students at this time.      New student handbooks were sent home recently and Dr. Cuthbert visited each classroom to discuss respect and cooperation in a positive way.

At meeting time, the plans for the Fun Fair were for Saturday 10/17 but due to continued rain, will be postponed to 10/24.   The time will remain 11a-3p

General budget income:  119  families  have paid full or partial dues.     Spending: there are 2 proposals for spending funds for the library.   Some research will be conducted to see if there is enough interest in a new program, but there was unanimous support for additional library materials.

The PTA will have begin to have speakers at our general bi-monthly meetings.  If you or someone you know is interested in a particular topic or person to speak please let us know via email or the “comments” below.    To begin, our November meeting will feature information all about our renovation project and the Stoddert of tomorrow.  For example, did you know the new gymnasium will have an indoor/outdoor stage?   Come see what the buildings and playground will be like!

Fundraising will be focused mostly on the things our students and teachers will need next year once moved into permanent classrooms.    We are hoping to get final details soon and begin “selling” bricks to be used in constructing the outdoor space next to the renovated building.   The first “Restaurant Night” is coming up Nov. 1-stay tuned for details.   There is still no person heading up the Big Chili so if you are interested in organizing it, please speak up!   Other ideas are in the works and if you have a great idea for a Stoddert fundraiser we’d love to hear it!

The Chalkboard will continue to be emailed but there was discussion about discontinuing the print/paper version.  No decision has been made yet.

We need YOU!   There are several things the PTA needs help with.  Some of which are:  Hospitality (overseeing childcare/pizza for PTA meetings), Big Chili chairperson and Fundraising.   Come get involved with your child’s school, make new friends and have fun!
