This Week, from Dr. Cuthbert | October 17
Hello Stoddert Family,
I am just back from a PTA Executive Board Meeting and am again impressed with the level of support that you give to us at Stoddert. There are so many fun events coming up that should be enjoyable and interesting for the whole family. I hope many of you will volunteer to help with upcoming events.
Just to catch you up on what is happening at school, I wanted you to know that good teaching and learning is going on daily. A fun and rewarding part of my job is to observe our teachers delivering instruction. I have seen so much quality teaching and students engaged. This year the teachers are being evaluated on a new system called IMPACT. It is an instrument designed to capture good teaching. It is a part of the Teaching and Learning Framework that is the major initiative of DCPS this year. It focuses on delivering content, engaging multiple learning styles, checking for understanding, maximizing instructional time, etc. I have seen excellent instruction and students actively learning.
I thought you might like to know that there are 285 Stoddert Wolves at present. Of the total population, 52% are male and 48% female. We are fortunate to have a very multi-cultural student mix, with 9% Hispanic, 12% Asian, 19% African-American, and 60% Caucasian. We have many countries represented and learn so much from each other.
The creation of our new Stoddert is moving along and on schedule. Work continues on concrete footers and foundation wall installation. The crews are starting underground plumbing and electrical work. They will pour slabs on grade for concrete floors in early November and start structural steel work. Utility work will also start in November. We will hope to get out more information as it becomes available. It is going to be such a marvelous new Stoddert!
Hope to see you at the Fall Fair!
