DPR Play Day on Friday, October 30
Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s),
The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is once again working in partnership with DC
Public Schools (DCPS) to offer structured, supervised programming in many of our recreation
centers during scheduled DCPS teacher professional development days. I am excited to
announce our second “DPR Play Day” on Friday, October 30 from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm for youth in
grades K-8 in 26 DPR sites throughout the city.
In order to guarantee a spot for your child on the 30th, you must register in one of two ways:
- Complete the Registration/Parent Consent Form (available at http://newsroom.dc.gov/show.aspx/agency/dpr/section/2/release/18392) and return it to the front desk attendant at the recreation center you would like for your child to attend, OR,
- Register online at http://www.dpr.dc.gov.
Space is limited, so we encourage early registration. We will closely monitor enrollment trends
leading up to the 30th and will work to make adjustments as needed. Families are welcome to
register their children in the program of their choice.
All programs will include organized games, academic enrichment, and fun activities for
registered youth. Both breakfast and lunch will be available to all youth, but youth may also
bring their own bagged lunch and/or snack. We ask that all youth come dressed appropriately
for indoor and outdoor play. We recommend comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.
Given the proximity to the Halloween holiday, all sites will host a costume party in the
afternoon. Youth are encouraged to bring a costume to change into and parents are welcome to
donate candy and snacks (please no items with peanuts). Several sites will be taking children on
a field trip to other DPR sites for special activities during the day. Please see the attached
Registration/Parent Consent Form for additional information.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 202-445-3562. We are eager to
provide DCPS youth with a safe, exciting, and fun-filled experience on the 30th.
Sincerely,
Ximena Hartsock
Acting Director | DC Department of Parks and Recreation
