Stoddert Elementary

The NEW Playground for Stoddert “East” needs you | Saturday the 26th

Saturday is playground day!

New Play Space

The PTA has paid for and organized both hard and soft surface outdoor play spaces…AND THEY ARE GOING TO BE TERRIFIC!

Here’s the catch: We need some volunteer help this Saturday to assemble and build the NEW space out. We’ll need things like wheel-barrowing wood chips, assembling outdoor furniture, building a sandbox, transplanting plants, planting a flower garden, painting benches and building an outdoor classroom, building a canopy, assembling equipment, etc.  There will be a lot to do, but clearly something for every skill set!!

Join us on Saturday, September 26th from 9:30 a.m to 1:00 p.m. at Stoddert, and help us get the job done!

Can We Borrow Your Cordless Drill?

IN ADDITION, we are looking for folks who can lend us some tools/supplies for the day, specifically:

  • spade shovels
  • rakes
  • buckets
  • brooms
  • power tools, especially, power cords, circular saws, power drills, cordless drills, jig saws
  • Hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, sawhorses, sandpaper, tape measures, levels, etc.
  • Anyone who is a do-it-yourselfer, just pack a “bag of essentials” for a bunch of projects!

Please mark your tools with your name on masking tape so that we don’t get tools mixed up.

FYI—We are tapping into the community garden to ask them to provide us with wheelbarrows to distribute the wood chips. We are getting a whole truckload of chips delivered free of charge.

Food!

pizzaBagels will be provided. It’ll be either Einstein’s or Bruegger’s. Whichever donates, please give them your devoted business!
Lunch will be pizza from Kavanaugh’s. (Kevin and Leigh have been devoted sponsors for Stoddert in the five years since they have been in business.)

All Thumbs? We Also Need Some Babysitting Help!

As parents of four kids—we understand the challenges of volunteering when you have multiple children. With that in mind, we would like to ask several parents to volunteer to do nothing else except watch the kids. This job would require you to: Keep the kids occupied on the grassy area; help them with a few arts and crafts projects, and to make sure they have fun and have some lunch. We think this is one of the most important volunteer efforts to getting this project done well. If you can do it, please let us know immediately!

As always, thank you for your dedicated support of Stoddert. It is what defines our close-knit neighborhood of caring parents nestled in NW in the District of Columbia!

Sincerely,
Mike and Becky Gardner

Parents of: Paige—Grade 4, Ms. Prosser; Miles—Kindergarten, Ms. Geraldo; Ian—Stoddert grad, now Grade 6, Hardy; and finally, Reese—soon-to-be Pre-K!
