1st grade welcome and supply list (Ms. Stevenson)
**Please note there are two first-grade class at Stoddert. You need to know in which your child has been enrolled.**
Welcome to First Grade
Dear Parents,
Another school year begins, I hope your summer was pleasant.
My goal is to help each student reach their potential by being an independent, confident student who is willing to take risks and not be afraid to make mistakes. Each student and their work will be respected by everyone in the room.
There are ways to help your child get the maximum from his/her day. It he/she can begin the day well rested and in a good frame of mind, it is probably that the work of the day will be beneficial. during this year your first grader will work collectively as a group, cooperatively in small groups or with a partner and independently. The equipment in the room has been carefully chosen to provide a variety of media and methods for learning. The equipment is multi-level – i.e. it provides learning experiences at various stage of development. The students are given the time and support to expand what is mastered and to explore what is difficult. It is designed to provide emotional and social support to create a non-threatening opportunity to learn.
There are a few class supplies that each child will need by August 31. They are:
2 spiral notebooks
box of Kleenex (tissues)
Zip lock bags – gallon size (if last name begins A-M)
- snack size (if last name begins N-Z)
If at all possible, please do not include candy in their lunches.
I look forward to meeting and working with you this year. I write a weekly newsletter so you will know exactly what we are doing in class. by working together this will be an exciting year.
Sincerely,
Mimi Stevenson
