- Police Report – Officer Baker reported that our area has the lowest crime rate in DC, down 33%. He credits the newly instituted foot patrol by Officer O’Brien for helping improve the situation. There is concern about the robbery at gunpoint on January 3 – It took place after midnight and followed the pattern seen last year, with three men involved. Over half of all thefts are from automobiles, mostly GPS’s and stereos, so be aware and remove these from your car.
- Liquor License Moratorium – ANC 3B voted to seek renewal for five years, with three additional CR (full service) licenses. GPCA had voted in January not to oppose the ANC if it did not add more than three, so we are now unanimous in support of this position.
- Government Representatives – Directors in charge of the DPW and Rodent Control attended to share Information and address issues. Bill Howland (DPW) reviewed waste collection processes, parking enforcement and snow removal. He noted complaints about irregular recycling collection and explained that a new fleet of trucks to spread salt during snow conditions should improve service on neighborhood roads. A meeting will be held next week at Guy Mason to discuss the rodent control problem there; the director emphasized a need for blockwide organization to treat with poison effectively. There were statements made opposing the use of poison, as it can kill off predators such as owls, who eat the poisoned rats.
- $25,000 Landscaping Grant – Walnut Street developers have allocated funds for improvements. At the next meeting, ideas will be discussed; planting and maintaining the triangle north of Wisconsin and Calvert; and painting a mural on the side of the new Fed Ex/Kinko’s building were both put forth.
- Community-Supported Agriculture – Two new Glover Parkers are organizing a relationship with a local farm, whereby participants purchase shares ($50 each) of whatever produce is grown every week. Anyone interested in participating or volunteering can contact Lauren at les259@nyu.edu
- 30-Route Busses – There are plans to add express busses to improve the traffic flow along Wisconsin Avenue. More information is forthcoming…
- New Officers – At the March meeting, a nominating committee will be formed, with voting to take place in May. Please consider donating your time and talents!
